The power of a well written internal report can make all the difference in both operational and non-operational policing environments.
This course has been designed to enhance dissemination and report writing skills by providing a better grasp of the underpinning theory and practice of distributing findings orally and in written format with emphasis on the methodologies and techniques that impact on the product driving effective decision making. Instruction is given on the planning and preparation of report content including the commissioning process, agreeing a terms of reference and creating collection plans, and on the producing of the report, including the structure, style, tone, language and quality assurance.
With operational matters, when progress is made to the point that a prosecution can take place, evidential documents must be drafted with care and attention to detail. This will ensure that all relevant aspects of the evidence that you have examined or produced are explained and made clear. Instruction is given on the theory and structure of witness statements, attribution reports and sequence of event reports.
